National Anthem
Paulovia has never had a unique dedicated anthem due to the diverse ethnicity of its island populations. A compromise was reached in 1930 to play the national anthems of Greece and Italy on alternate months, thereby representing the two major ethnic island groups.
However, since 1975 a hybrid version of Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' has often been used unofficially at sports and cultural events as a national anthem. There is strong support for its adoption as the official anthem due to Paulovia's close association with the European Union.
The Paulovia Constitution of 2010 calls for a dedicated anthem to represent all peoples of the Islands. Until this is decided the 1930 anthem compromise will continue to be used to represent Paulovia.
