History: 1998-Today

On 31 July, 1998, whilst in exile in Britain, His Royal Highness Prince Paul I with the surviving members of the Royal Family and pre-1945 Council of Ministers, re-established the historic Principality of Paulovia. The Royal Standard known as the 'Royal Cross' was adopted as the new State Flag of the princedom and an International Embassy opened in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. On the 7 November, 2005, the International Embassy opened online, followed by a government online forum on 16 November, 2005, for public and inter-micronational discussions and announcements. 

Between November 2007 and January 2008, the International Embassy underwent a drastic expansion with sweeping design changes. At the same time the Paulovia Forum was reduced in size and scope (now closed). The Embassy now reflects Paulovia's committment as a non-territorial, non-seccessionist, non-militarist and secular micronation, campaigning and supporting issues and charities throughout the world. 

Paulovia does not hold any formal territory and no longer participates in any virtual or micronational mapping organisation or 'world'. Paulovia does not aspire to any form of seccession or independent 'real' world territorial presence. Paulovia is best imagined as all the best aspects of Mediterranean island holidays in one place! 

Historically, Paulovia did have a map presence in the virtual worlds of Micras and Geiss. From January 2006, the princedom held virtual territory on the world of Micras managed by the Micronational Cartography Society (MCS). However, following changes in MCS policies Paulovia resigned from the MCS and participated as a founder member of the Geographical Standards Organisation (GSO) and moved to the virtual world of Geiss in August 2006. Following a change in Paulovian policy and a return to its declared founding principles, Paulovia resigned from the GSO on 29 May, 2007. Both these organisations became shadows of their former selves and it is believed the GSO is now defunct.

Prior to the adoption of a constitution in 2005 which established a constitutional monarchy and codified structure for government, the Principality was ruled as an absolute monarchy and family concern. Following representations from the Council of Ministers, HRH Prince Paul reluctantly accepted the need for a constitution in order to participate in the MCS and later the GSO. The Paulovian Constitution was enacted on 10 August, 2005.

Following the dissolution of the short-lived Geiss based Kingdom of Paulovia and resignation of the Principality of Paulovia from the GSO in May 2007, the Paulovian Constitution was suspended and an absolute monarchy re-asserted under the Articles for Dissolution of the Kingdom of Paulovia of 30 November, 2007. A revised constitution is under consideration by the Great Panjandrum Council of Ministers (ongoing).

Following the Memorandum of Rectitude in May 2007, Paulovia declared a return to the founding principles of Paulovia and the shedding of all military and colonial aspirations in the virtual world of Giess and effectively in all future micronational associations and relationships. To underline this Paulovia disbanded its virtual national armed forces under the Defence Forces Act 10/2007. Paulovia will not maintain any virtual military forces or associated aspirations in the future and assumes a pacifist stance to aggresive war in the macronational and micronational worlds. However, Paulovia reserves the right to defend its integrity and support others in the defence of their freedoms, culture and self-determination against state sponsored or terrorist oppresssion and aggression.

Paulovia has returned to its re-founding principles of peaceful co-existence, self-determination and constructive micronationalism, freeing its future from the heavy and constraining burden of a foreign policy driven by associations with a virtual map and territory, and the irrational actions by other micronations without due regard to diplomatic conventions and responsibility for their actions.

From November 2007 Paulovia committed its resources to the promotion of peaceful inter-micronational co-operation and development beyond the impositions of virtual territory or mapping systems, and the constraints and limitations of polarised political and religious dogma to actively support and promote sustainable environmental policies and charitable works in the macronational 'real' world whilst having some virtual micronational fun! 

Funds for charity support is raised from personal contributions by the Royal Family from estate and private incomes, by citizen donations, and increasingly from public sales of Paulovian postage stamps and postcards. The history of Paulovia in the 21st century remains to be written and you can help shape it. Following a drastic redesign and expansion of the original Embassy website of 2005, the new International Embassy of Paulovia was re-published on 31 January, 2008.
