Klasika Insulo
The Klasika Islands (Classic Islands) are remote and difficult to reach even by the regular and experienced ferry boat services due to the dangerous waters and reefs around the islands. Few communities exist in these islands and this has made it a haven for fauna and flora. Collectively the Klasika Islands are recognised in Paulovia for their rugged beauty and stunning cliffs but few live on these harsh islands for too long. If isolation appeals to you; if you need inspiration from the natural world; desire spectacular sea scapes, the Klasika Islands are the place for you but beware, there a few modern facilities here. However, since 2005 a number of artists and writers colonies have been established by hardy citizens and are now attracting more settlement on the main islands of Bovary, Imogen and Karenina. All the other islands are only inhabited by lighthouse keepers, seasonal fishermen and periodic visits by officials from the Paulovia Environment, Ecology and Parks Service (PEEPS). Bovary Island residents produce Jet jewellery (ancient pertrified wood) in two villages on the island and are self-sufficient in food. Bovary is now also home to the Bovary Artists Colony that includes painters, sculptors and designers of various crafts. The colony welcomes newcomers. Karenina Island is home to a single village they relies on fishing and some subsistence farming on poor soil. Karenina is now also home to the Karenina Writers Collective that includes poets and writers from within Paulovia and worldwide. The collective welcomes newcomers. Imogen Island has a small resident population in small hamlets and is the base for the self-styled Hermits of Cymbeline, a group that devote their lives to contemplation, spiritual awareness and practice self-sufficiency. The group live in a commune that welcomes visitors for short stays in one of their spartan 'cells'. Visitors are expected to share the manual work of running the commune and working the land. Recently, a number of residents have established homes on the island and earn a living by renting rooms to visitors or working for the commune in return for food. The commune does not have official sanction to exist on the island and this hard island life is not recommended for most citizens. Following a petition by native islanders, and in recognition of their natural beauty, the Klasika Insulo was granted its own flag in April 2009. Honorary Citizens are permitted to register their Residency on the islands of Bovary, Karenina and Imogen
